Reebok have been producing sportswear and men’s trainers for over one hundred years. The company was founded in the UK in the late eighteen hundreds and was officially named Reebok in the late fifties. The company is named after the African animals that is a type of antelope.
The company started to achieve huge success in the early eighties when they started to capitalise on the popularity of aerobics by producing a trainer specifically for the activity.
The was called the “Freestyle” and it is still made today and still sells huge volumes.
The first pair of mens Reebok trainers that achieved huge success was the Ex-O-Fit. It was actually designed by the son of the founder of the company.
Reebok produces its footwear in many factories around the world but it is recognised as ensuring that it meets basic human rights by providing quality places to work and paying fair wages.
Like many producers of men’s trainers, Reebok has a large association with sports around the world. They are the sponsor to many teams and leagues around the world including the NFL and NHL in the USA. They also endorse many leading sportsmen such as Thierry Henry and Ryan Giggs. It also has long ties with Bolton Wanderers and has named their stadium.
Reebok have also managed to make a move into youth culture by associating with many well known celebrities. The first music star to receive their endorsement from the company was the rapper Jay-Z. The “S. Carter” Reebok trainers were released in 2003 and were the quickest selling trainer the company had ever released. They have also been connected with other celebrities including 50 Cent, Scarlett Johansson and The Streets.
